So let me tell you about our recent trip to Croatia.

I guess we all think of Kings Landing at first? Or maybe if you’re not a Thronie

you might think of old Croatia as part of Yugoslavia?

Well let me tell you that whatever your first thoughts are on Croatia, just go with an open mind because this country is incredible! And we only see a snippet of what’s to offer.

Crystal clear blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, beautiful greenery, friendly locals, ancient fortresses, rocky seaside hang outs, endless sunsets and great food, oh the food! Yum.

We really fell in love with this bit of paradise just 2.5 hours in flight from London. I kept asking my husband “why haven’t we come here before?”

We started in Dubrovnik, famous for being the filming spot of Kings Landing in Game of Thrones from season 2 (yes we are Thronies!) but there was so much more to this gorgeous town.
Oozing with culture, ancient buildings, the prettiest little streets I’ve ever scene, we hit the jackpot starting off our adventure here.

We stayed on the Port side of the town which was beautiful to see in itself. I’d recommend this if you’d like a piece of quiet away from the Pile Gate area which is deep in the centre.

The city is full of great eateries, shops and amazing Gelato – which I had every day whilst on holiday oops!

Inside the City walls lies the most beautiful, hilly city. You must spend as much time exploring every street as each has do many surprises.
Apart from that you will spot so many GOT tours going on, I wanted something special and authentic and I found it in our guide Ivana from got2du tours http://got2du.com/ not only has she lived in Dubrovnik most of her life, she was actually a peasant in GOT and a total Thronie so we had an absolute expert on the history of this great city too!

Hvar
Havr had to be my favourite of the 3 locations.
Its absolutely stunning!

The gorgeous island is full of charm, beautiful beaches, beach clubs, restaurants, boutiques and has a fun atmosphere which never gets old.

There’s lots of chic yachts that I wish I could afford (universe do your thing!) and ample amounts of cool restaurants and bars to hang out in.
Definitely a place of good looking wealthy individuals but also a mixture of young and old.
We were there around the time of Ultra music festival so there was an increase of parties which we don’t mind of course!

I absolutely adored the scenery, our hotel looked out on palm trees and the beautiful sea, like heaven really…

Our days were full of sunbathing on rocky pavillians overlooking the sea, where you could jump straight into its crystal waters.
We took an adventure across the island visiting Stardi Grand,
Which was so beautiful.
We discovered stunning Coves that were pretty untouched and full of unbelievable beauty.
Ate gelato in every possible flavour, and walked for hours down the pretty streets that were covered in borganvillia and limestone.
I didn’t want to leave this magical place and our last day was so magical.

We hired out our very own boat with the best driver and local expert Petar. We travelled by sea to two caves which were incredible natural beauties. We got to see so many secret spots, local hideouts and scenic beauty of the islands. https://www.visit-hvar.com/

Split
Our Croatian Adventure ends in Split.
A busy city full of tourism but not lacking in Croatian charm and culture.

We took the ferry boat from Hvar which took just over an hour, very smooth sailing!

I’d recommend pre booking all of your ferry tickets in advance as it gets pretty busy and you’ll need to make sure you get the appropriate time slot if you’re on a tight schedule!

There’s plenty to see, historical buildings, shops, restaurants and the harbour.

Flying home to the UK is very easy from Split, we found plenty of daily flights to and from London.

The food is great which was the case all over Croatia.

Hubby had a particularly fantastic meal on the last night which was a local dish skampi na buzaru at a great restaurant: https://konoba-korta.business.site/?bw=true. You must try it!

I enjoyed so much truffle over the holiday, I could not get enough!

What a great adventure we had in Croatia, and there’s no doubt we’ll be back again to see more of what this incredible country has to offer.

The Magical Kingdom that stole my heart…

The Magical Kingdom of Cambodia

It was 2015, Me and hubby were in discussion of where to visit next.

Cambodia!? We had spoken about it many times before, spent much time browsing photos on Instagram and Pinterest with so much curiosity.

We had read a few things on line, and of course we’ve all seen Ange in Tomb Raider!

This time it seemed right so we started to research hotels, location, flights etc.

We took our route via Singapore which seems to be our regular path whilst visiting South East Asia now.

Stopping off at Changi after our flight with Singapore Airlines, and staying overnight at The Crowne Plaza Hotel we also got to explore some of what Singapore offered which mostly involved shopping and sight-seeing near the Bay.

This gave us a good rest before our next leg to Siem Reap.

Once we arrived at the airport, I already had a sense of comfort, a sense of calm.

The airport is so cute! Small but well organised and apart from the fact we didn’t prepared our visas, which you should do beforehand (you need a passport photo of yourself which we forgot) it is all straight forward and the airport staff are friendly.

We headed to our hotel-  Golden Temple Residence. via a transport service organised by the hotel in advance.

We arrived and were greeted by extremely friendly staff with a serving of welcoming refreshments and food. Absolutely yummy!

Once settled in our rooms, we relaxed by the pool for a bit to go over our itinerary then we explored the local area for a while.

In a nutshell, I cannot praise this beautiful country and its people enough.

The food and accommodation was great, service even better, the people are like none I’ve ever met, the landscape, temples and nature is out of this world!  and I can say Cambodia stole a piece of my heart.

I would defiantly like to visit again and it remains on the top of my travel list.

Cambodia I love you.

My top activities for Cambodia , Siem Reap area are:

img_0318

  1. Temple hoping- You cannot come to Cambodia and not see most of the incredible, historical and breath-taking temples and shrines. Grab a taxi (TUK TUK) and head over to the Archaeological Park to see – The Bayon, Thommanon, and the famous Preah Khan (Tomb Raider) to name a very few.            img_0408

2. Sunrise at Angkor Wat- A early morning wake up call but totally worth it! An incredible experience that made me feel like I was in a dream! This magical place has so much spiritual impact and makes you appreciate this earth more than ever.A Bucket List MUST. This trip can be arranged with your hotel, Or a local tour guide (recommendations below).

3. Quad Biking– One of my most favorite things I’ve done on a vacation.

The fun and excitement of driving around Siem Reap’s surrounding villages, rice fields and dirt tracks was awesome! We stopped off to eat lunch with locals, visited temples and other local attractions, truly seeing authentic Cambodia which I love!

  1. Zip Wire Jungle Adventure– A fun-filled activity and a must! Not only did we see the beautiful jungle canopies whilst ‘flying’ but we got to see some local critters too (on our request) ! Don’t be put off, it’s totally safe and the whole experience is set up by an Australian company and has lots of safety regulations – www.treetopasia.comimg_0420

  1. Shopping and Spas! Of course, I never go anywhere without bringing back some memorabilia for my home or some locally made clothes/goods. Siem Reap has some great market stalls, shops and spas. I like to have traditional spa treatments wherever I go and it’s great for relaxing in between all the exploring and physical activities we do I bought some locally made clothing – I love a pair of patterned trousers! Some bags, and art.

Vietnam 2016

pic-1

Last month my husband and I visited Vietnam.

We decided on more North because Southern areas have monsoon this time year.

It took us a while to decide on location as Vietnam is quite vast and there’s quite a journey to travel between landmarks etc..
So bear that in mind- be prepared to travel around.

We decided on Hanoi, a busy city and an easy location to get to from the airport.

Our route from London took us to Singapore, which is our favorite connecting hot spot for journeys to the far east.

I’d highly recommend Changi Airport as its super clean, well organised and plus there’s plenty of shops and restaurants to pass the time between connections.

one-pillar

Once we’d landed in Hanoi and collected our luggage we made our journey to the city.

bikes

We chose The Old Quarter area of Hanoi as it  is a great area for shopping and hotels .

We stayed at the La Siesta Trendy hotel.
I have to say the staff were great and really went out of their way .
Rooms were clean and the food at the restaurant were pretty good too.

Hanoi as a whole is your typical bustling Asian city.
We enjoyed walking around the busy streets and experiencing everyday life.
This is the best way to see the city by far so take an old pair of trainers or flip flops- definitely comfort over style!

You will see what locals sell like meat, locally made goods and clothing.

Be prepared for some unusual sights, some of which you may find uncomfortable ( I’m talking food) Oh and haggle with the sellers!

Hỏa Lò Prison, Hanoi. I couldn't help but feel very emotional here, but a good visit to learn the history of the past...

Ha Long Bay

The highlight of our trip was definitely Ha Long Bay.

Although we only spent 1.5 days here and 2 nights, it was amazing.

They call Ha Long Bay one of the new wonders of the world and it really is something incredible!

Ha Long Bay will take you around 3-4 hours by road traffic depending. It’s well worth it.
We hired a driver which our hotel organised.
It was very reasonable and much more pleasant than sitting on a bus full of people.

We stayed at the Vin Pearl Resort Ha Long Bay ,
And I just have to say how luxurious this hotel was – I mean- oh Wow!

So it’s on it’s own island and you take a little boat across the water to the resort , just so cute!
The hotel is beautiful, quite regal and I felt kinda under dressed for a while in my travelling attire !
But it’s really quite a relaxed atmosphere which I loved as I hate that over posh feeling that some hotels give out you know?

The grounds were immaculate, the pool food and cocktails really hit the spot! And the beach was just beautiful!

May I just add that it was extremely quiet at this time (1pm) as most guests were out seeing the sights, so we basically had the whole place to ourselves! not bad .

The Vin Pearl Jetty waiting for the boat which takes you to the private island resort

After we rested over a swim, sauna then a private dinner on the jetty (highly recommend) we slept like logs in our perfectly posh room.

Most guests had the buffet dinner but we were happy to have a private dining experience that was very reasonably priced.

Then next day I was so excited as we had hired a junk boat to tour us around Ha Long Bay.

Picking us up in the morning we headed over to the main port to board our boat.

It takes around 30 mins to arrive among the incredible rock formations.

Its breathtaking, and I was in absolute awe of its beauty.

The day consisted of kayaking among caves  to which we encountered a huge fish which we believe to be a catfish- don’t worry you stay inside your kayak or boat so there’s no danger!
Such a fun experience.

We also went to the ‘surprising cave’ named after it’s surprising size and beauty.

pic-2

We also stopped at Ti Top Island where we climbed the many steps to the top.
It was tiring but totally worth it as you have a breathtaking view of Ha Long in all its beauty.
We also swam off the small beach here.

I was sad to leave this piece of Nirvana.
It is a memory that I will keep forever.

The next day we headed back to Hanoi and soaked up as much as the

city we could before heading back to London.

Another adventure, over too quickly…
